Port Hudson SHS
Civil War site of the last Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River and the longest siege in American military history. It is also the place where African-American soldiers were first used in a major assault. Today, a portion of the battlefield is preserved inside the site with over 6 miles of beautiful walking trails that lead to original earthworks and other battlefield features. In addition, there is a visitor's center that contains exhibits and a short introductory video, outdoor cannon displays, and a large picnic area.
